CA Governor Signs Bill into Law As Part of Homeowner Bill of Rights

August 27, 2012

On August 27, California Governor Jerry Brown signed AB 2314 into law as part of the California Homeowner Bill of Rights package. The bill would extend indefinitely an existing law requiring the legal owners of vacant, foreclosed properties to maintain these properties or face fines or penalties for code violations. The bill also provides the owners with 30 days to remedy violations and the right to contest any fines imposed, and prohibits enforcement agencies from any action for 60 days after the owner takes title to the property.
