On October 1, the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision released three reports assessing the proposed rules intended to implement Basel III in the European Union and the U.S and the final rules to implement Basel III in Japan. The reports compared each domestic regulation with the Basel Committee’s global standards. The Basel Committee will issue follow-ups to these preliminary reports for the EU and U.S. when final rules have been released. Specifically, the reviews aim to ensure the timely adoption of Basel III, regulatory consistency with Basel III, and a consistency of outcomes, initially focusing on risk-weighted assets.
