The ASF has submitted a comment letter in response to the Notice and Request for Information issued by the Department of the Treasury and the Department of Housing and Urban Development (“HUD”) seeking public comments on establishing a more stable and sound housing finance system. The questions are intended to generate public input on the reform of the GSE system prior to Treasury’s expected release later this year of a comprehensive GSE reform proposal. ASF’s letter offers a brief discussion of the role of securitization in the housing finance system and addresses key questions on the role the federal government should play in the housing finance system.

ASF also submitted today a slightly revised version of its letter to the “call for papers” from the Federal Reserve System and the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (“FDIC”) regarding mortgage foreclosures and the future of housing finance. The papers will be reviewed for inclusion in a two-day research conference to be hosted in October 2010 by the Federal Reserve and the FDIC. We would like to thank our outside counsel on the matter, Christopher DiAngelo of Dewey & LeBoeuf LLP and ASF’s senior policy advisor, Armando Falcon, former Director of OFHEO and General Counsel of the House Banking Committee, for their outstanding work in producing these letters.
